Napier (Maori name Ahuriri) is a port city located 10 km from it's twin city Hastings. The two are sometimes referred to as 'The Twin Cities' or 'The Bay Cities'. In 1931 Napier was all but completely destroyed by an earthquake and ensuing fires. The town centre was rebuilt in the popular Art Deco style of the time, and it remains a dominant theme in the 21st Century. Population: 57000
