Riverton is a small town located at the western end of Oreti Beach, 30 km west of Invercargill. The main local industry is fishing.

The local area has fine cafes and bars, access to sea fishing through charter boats and local fishermen, trout fishing on the Aparima River that flows through the town, picturesque scenery and native bush walks. Riverton is the oldest European settlement in New Zealand.
